Napier GALS

Welcome to GALS

Hello fellow students!! May I take this opportunity to welcome you to the Napier University Gay and Lesbian Society (GALS for short) web page, from all the fellow members. We hope you are viewing this page prior to taking the next step of actually attending one of our popular meetings.

Our fortnightly meetings take place on Wednesday within an Edinburgh gay bar (check the news page for our next meeting), with the proceedings commencing at 7.30pm. Members tend to arrive in dribs and drabs, so don't feel alone should you be amongst the first to arrive, others will not be far behind!! Should you feel uncomfortable entering a gay bar for the first time, you can always email us on

gals@flashmail.com

and we can arrange for you to meet one of our members somewhere more familiar in order to accompany you to a meeting.

Ralph, our convener (a.k.a. Ralphybabes, or the Mother Superior!), welcomes all members, and goes out of his way to give a warm welcome to new faces. Beware of him!! Once he starts to chat, he doesn't know when to stop!

A relaxed atmosphere prevails, allowing you to get to know other members and hear about society events, such as the gay University Challenge (organized by Edinburgh University gay society), visits to other towns and cities, like Glasgow for nights out, and forthcoming local and national gay events such as Pride Scotland.

The meeting usually adjourns to a local night club for more falling down juice and a boogie with other society members, or who ever you fancy on the dance floor!!

However, be warned!!! Ralphybabes, as part of his remit, emails all members with a resume of the evenings events, so if you are easily embarrassed, behave yourself!!

Don't be worried about being "outed". All members are fully aware of personal discretion. Obviously there are members, like myself, who are out, but we still abide by a members request to remain anonymous.

Any student who is gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered may feel isolated on joining Napier University, but by making your way to one of our meetings, I am sure new doors will open, hopefully leading to a happy stay amongst friends while studying for your qualification.

Take Care,

Tony (a.stamp@dcs.napier.ac.uk)
